A VPN adds a little distance and encryption. With the right server, most people don’t notice a difference. Here’s how to get the most speed.

  1. Use a nearby server

    Distance matters most. Choose Optimal region or a city in or next to your country. Check current load on server locations.

  2. Try another protocol

    IKEv2 and OpenVPN UDP are the fastest. OpenVPN TCP is the slowest — use it only when others fail.

  3. Test without the VPN

    Run a speed test with RealVPN off. If it’s also slow, the issue is your Wi-Fi or provider. Move closer to the router or use a cable.

  4. On a router: check the CPU

    Entry-level routers can’t encrypt at full speed. See router tips.
