Setting and Managing an IPSec IKEv2 Connection (Android)

Before you begin to set up RealVPN IKEv2 connection on your Android device, you need to get your VPN account credentials from the RealVPN's User Settings.

  1. Sign in with your account at https://realvpn.io

  2. Open the dropdown Account menu and click Settings.

  3. In the opened window select the required VPN server you want to connect to.

  4. Then select the IKEv2 protocol from the list.

  5. Click Generate to get the connection data.

Now proceed to set up the connection on your Android device.

  1. From the Google Play Store install a strongSwan VPN Client.
    Get it on Google Play
  2. Open the installed app and tap Add VPN Profile.

  3. In the opened window enter the following data:
    • Server: paste the Domain name from the generated connection data
    • VPN Type: select IKEv2 EAP (Username/Password)
    • Username: paste Login from the generated connection data
    • Password: paste Password from the generated connection data
    • CA certificate: keep the checkbox enabled to Select automatically
    • Profile name: input any connection name, for example, RealVPN

  4. When you finish, tap Save.

Now you have the RealVPN connection established.

Use the strongSwan VPN Client to enable\disable VPN connection.

Important! If you get an error when trying to establish a connection, then you may need to import certificates(Android 7.1.1 and earlier). To do this follow the next steps:

  1. Tap the following link and confirm downloading:
    https://letsencrypt.org/certs/isrgrootx1.pem
  2. Open the strongSwan VPN Client app and press in the upper right corner.
  3. Select CA certificates and press .
  4. Choose Import certificates. Select certificates you’ve just downloaded and press Import certificate.

  5. Go to the Imported tab to check if both certificates were successfully added.
That's about it. Now you have a running VPN connection through the IKEv2 protocol.
